STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS
Last week, I went to the cinema with a friend to see the new film Star Trek Into Darkness.
At this point, I just want to mention that Star Trek isn't a typical "critic's film".
Certain films are created with the sole intention of wanting approval from the hierarchy of critics, and let's be honest, any film with explosions, fight sequences or one of the main women in the film stripping down to their underwear with no further explanation doesn't fit this criteria, however I think it is more preferable to see a film created solely for blind pleasure.
And where blind pleasure is concerned, it definitely delivered. Sure, it had some safe action sequences that I've seen repeated a billion times by Jason Bourne-types, but the element of Sci-fi kept it fresh and interesting, and alongside brilliant comical acting from Simon Pegg, once again Benedict Cumberbatch's sensational acting saved what could have been a forgettable film with a bad guy that left you scared to pitying to horrified within the space of a few minutes.
If you like serious, historical dramas that were moulded to win Oscars, then just run off and watch Lincoln. If you prefer a bit of light action with strong sentimental values and a heartwarming bromance, then Star Trek is the film for you.
