An Ode to Jeff Buckley
All of his music
had that melancholy beauty,
a sadness, so sad it brings joy,
He sang about drowning,
some said it was foreshadowing-
(I didn't realise that he had died.)
I listened to him,
slowly falling in love,
wanting more and more,
"why had I not discovered him before?"
He had an old soul,
though he was only thirty years old
singing hallelujah
when the water pulled him under
it shouldn't hurt-
(it was fifteen years ago, after all)
but it does,
he was too young,
too talented,
and too alive in his voice-
but when the waves pulled him under
he had no choice.
but when the waves pulled him under
he had no choice.

RIP Jeff Buckley
(1966-1997)
